I have been a practicing Industrial Chemist for 37 years working with Unilever at their Port Sunlight Research and Development Lab for 28 of those years, and Biotechnology companies for the remainder.
I have tutored A-Level Chemistry students for 7 years, providing tutoring at their home or my home. Most of these I have helped raise grades or help them adjust during the difficult transition from GCSEs to GCEs. Many have stayed with me throughout their 6th form and I have helped them get the necessary grades to enter University. I have also trained chemists professionally throughout my Industrial career.
I adjust my approach to the student varying from teaching subject matter to testing their understanding by going through questions and past papers at a pace which works for the student. Generally I try and shadow what they are currently doing at school to reinforce what they have just leaned or cover topics that they are struggling to grasp. Nearer to exam periods I tend to focus more on going through past papers to help improve their exam technique.
