I am a graduate in Mathematical Economics from the University of Birmingham. My original career was as a Chartered Management Accountant but I always had the ambition to move into teaching. I have been tutoring children one-to-one since 2012. I also run a maths and English training centre for 3 to 14 year olds. I was a governor in a primary and then a grammar school for many years before entering the teaching profession. I was on the GTP training course for Secondary Mathematics at London South Bank University before deciding to go down the tutoring route. My aim is to help children become independent, confident learners who are not afraid of numbers. Everyone can do Maths!
I teach maths at the following levels:
GCSE
A Level
Adult Learners
I have been tutoring for eleven years and have a lot of experience preparing studens for their exams. I make the fundamentals of the subject understandable and expalin that maths is not just remembering a long list of facts. If you can understand why you are doing something, it is much easier to learn how to do it.
I teach maths at all levels up to Further Maths in year 13. This includes Mechanics and Statistics.
I also teach adults who need to build up their core numeracy skills for work based exams or courses.
My approach is to build confidence by always treating students with respect, praising good work, giving tips for improvements and valuing their opinions.
But don't take my word for it. These are the comments posted by parents. They demonstrate my approach to tutoring.
