I am a retired Head of Department at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, who has taught since 1973. After retiring I missed teaching so took up tutoring. I enjoy helping students improve their understanding of topics.

I am happy teaching both face to face at my house or online via Skype or Zoom. I have a good setup at home for face to face tutoring.

I teach AQA Geography, OCR Geography, AQA Envrironmental Science, AQA Computer Science and OCR Computer Science

Tutoring Experience

I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1973 and have been teaching since then. I originally taught Geography for 11 years.

I then sought a new challenge and took a postgraduate course at Solford Univeristy in computing. I was a software engineer for 3 years however I missed teaching. So with my new knowledge I accepted a post at Sutton Colefield College where I taught A Level, Btec and some University Computing Courses.

When I had my daughter I stopped teaching for a while and then I did some supply teaching where I taught a range of subjects. I then became Head of Computing at Burgate Sixth Form College and later Barton Peverill Sixth Form College.

Since I left Barton Peverill 10 years ago I have been tutoring in Computer Science, Geography and Environmental Science. My tutoring involved supplementary support for people studying at schools or Sixth Form colleges, full support for people resitting and people starting the A-level independently from scratch.

I was also an examiner for AQA Geography which gave me valuable insight on exam technique. I am fully conversant with the current syllabi and have attended several relevant AQA courses.

Tutoring Approach

I have dealt with both high-level students who just need some extra help to achieve an A* , students who struggle to understand the material and students in between. I adapt my technique and lesson materials to suit my students' needs. I work by finding the current skill and knowledge levels of my student and then gradually building these skills to their highest potential.
