Maths Teacher in Tower Hamlets

Still looking for a tutor who not only teaches the content, but also makes the experience exciting and fun? I think you may have stumbled upon the right person!

Hi! My name is Imtehaz, and I am your ticket to mastering all those numbers and letters that you have been dreading every maths lesson. As a Mechanical Engineering student at Queen Mary, University of London and as someone who has been in your exact position before, I know exactly how to tackle complex concepts to make them accessible and engaging.

Tutoring Experience

I have always been one to help with academic struggles of anyone who asked for help. Due to this, I had the opportunity to engage with and change my teaching style to a diverse range of students – from making simple concepts even simpler for primary school students to tackling questions of confused university peers.

For just over a year, I have been tutoring younger family members, focusing on fundamental concepts that is stopping them from progressing their understanding of more advanced dilemmas. This one-on-one experience has taught me how to customise my teaching approach to an individual’s needs, ensuring that they understand the content to a point where they themselves can teach it to others.

During my time in sixth form, I had the privilege of tutoring Year 7 to Year 10 students in after-school homework club. I assisted students with various maths topics, from basic arithmetic to complicated algebra. Working in group settings allowed me to develop effective strategies to maintain engagement and explain concepts in ways to make it clear to everyone.

Tutoring Approach

Every student is unique. My tutoring approach builds around this, where understanding a student’s learning style and needs are the focus points. I start by having a discussion with the student on what are their strong and weak topics, to assess their understanding and to identify any gaps in knowledge. This acts as a building block to formulating the lessons for the student, for laying a foundation for essential knowledge before exploring more complex topics. For lessons to be engaging, I use active teaching styles such as visual aid, interactive exercises and practice questions.

For lessons to be effective, the most important thing is for the student to be in a comfortable environment. I ensure that the learning environment is always fun and positive, this will encourage the student to be open, to ask questions or call out when they are struggling to understand something. This not only helps the student, but it will also allow me to see what it is that the student is struggling to grasp, giving me the opportunity to tackle this before moving onto even complex topics.

The goal is not only to help with their struggles in maths in school, but it is also to inspire them to look at maths as something more than just an obstacle to get a grade. This, in the long run will make mathematics even more exciting and approachable for the student.
