I am a qualified History teacher with five years of teaching experience in a World Class secondary school, and I absolutely adore history. I am enthusiastic about encouraging this passion in young people to help them achieve their goals. I am incredibly patient and have a creative approach to breaking down difficult concepts.
I have taught History for five years in a World Class secondary school, teaching students throughout Key Stages Three, Four and Five. Within this role I planned and taught lessons and marked and assessed student learning, taking curricular responsibility for all of the history lessons taught to Year 8. Furthermore, I organise intervention for pupils at GCSE and A-Level, to help them gain and exceed their target grades.
I can provide teaching and tutoring for content across all periods of history at KS3 and KS4. As a teacher I have taken four class groups of GCSE History students through the GCSE process (with a significant proportion achieving grades 7-9, and the vast majority reaching or surpassing their target grades), and therefore have specific expertise in the Edexcel courses in Weimar and Nazi Germany, Early Elizabethan England, American West and Medicine Through Time. I have also taken three class groups of A Level History students through both A Level exams and NEA - with no student achieving below a C in both the 2023 and 2024 cohorts and no NEA grades changing through the AQA moderation process. My specific area of expertise at A Level is the AQA Wars of the Roses course, although I have sound knowledge on the Tudor and Stuart period and Nazi Germany and am particularly adept at essay structure and technique.
I am also experienced and have a passion for supporting SEND students through their studies, and have a Level 1 qualification in Understanding Autism.
I run my lessons in a variety of different ways to best suit the student. This would most typically include retrieval activities to boost memory recall of key aspects of courses, discussions to break down complex concepts, and creative activities to inspire a passion for history. I also can run sessions on specific exam technique for Edexcel GCSE and AQA A Level exams, and can offer expert support with A Level NEA structuring and research techniques. I value the encouragement of independence, transferable skills and building student's confidence in themselves.
