I am finishing my Masters at Goldsmiths in Contemporary Art Theory, after returning from a term studying at CalArts, in California. I have been studying art in higher education for 7 years, and have been a practising artist for even longer. I have a traditional skill-based art background but am interested in contemporary art and concepts. I am dyslexic, so feel I am well place to help others with this specific learning disability, after years of navigating it myself.
I run a drawing workshop called Drawing from the Archive, which I have facilitated at museums and universities across the world. I have also run lectures/devised workshops at Central Saint Martins, Chelsea School of Art and London College of Communication and for Frieze Art Fair.
I want the student to relax and focus on the act of drawing, rather than the outcome, this way they can stop worrying about what the work should look like and focus on drawing what they can actually see. From here we will move on to more complex forms of art and concepts. I think being informed about other artists and their practices is important when making work, and helps to push work forward. We will look at contemporary and historical works and galleries. I am happy to speak to individuals and plan classes around what the need.
