I am Ishani May Siriwardena, a private tutor specialising in English. I live in the quiet country village where I enjoy walking, singing in a local choir and practicing martial arts. I love art, music, poetry and literature and have been lucky enough to travel widely.
After four years of teaching in schools in Lincolnshire, I had a revelation! My favourite moments in the classroom have always been those quiet conversations with individual students during and after classes that often lead to major learning breakthroughs. And that's when I realised that, with only a small change, I could dedicate my career to being in this role.
I qualified as a teacher with Bishop Grosseteste University College, Lincoln in 2011. My training schools included Christ Hospital, Banovallum and De Aston. I taught English and Media at Sir William Robertson School for three years and then spent a year at North Kesteven teaching English and Communication & Culture with added responsibility in developing Key Stage 3 to support the requirements of the new national curriculum and GCSEs. I have also privately tutored and mentored special needs students under the 'son-rise' programme and taught English as a foreign language to adults and students in India and Romania. I've been teaching privately since 2015 - nearly 10 years now!
My mission is to help frustrated or ambitious learners of all ages, stages, backgrounds and subjects of study to achieve their goals through carefully targeted and personalised support.
I offer personal tuition and guidance in a range of subjects including Engish (literature and language), history, art and media. I am qualified to teach students aged 11-18 through Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level but can also provide university admissions support, general essay proof-reading and guidance, revision skills sessions, English as a second language tuition and a variety of other educational services.
Whether you are in school, college, university, preparing for higher education, taking additional courses to improve your chances of promotion or studying towards a planned change of career, I am here to guide you towards success. As well as offering conventional teaching, I help you to develop your planning and revision skills, improve your confidence and enable you to work smarter rather than harder.
