I am an experienced English tutor providing personalized tuition in the Exeter area. Whether you need general help improving your writing and structuring your work, or subject-specific guidance for a particular assessment, do please get in touch and we can discuss your requirements. I have three years' experience as an associate lecturer as well as working for several years as a private tutor offering one-to-one sessions. I have a university background (with a BA, MA and PhD in English literature) but I enjoy working with people of different ages and educational levels - from A-level students preparing for their exams, to older tutees who need a second pair of eyes to look over their postgraduate dissertation or book manuscript. I particularly welcome inquiries from students for whom a little extra support and focused attention can make all the difference, such as students with dyslexia or whose first language is not English. Tutoring Experience

Alongside private tutoring across a range of exam boards and specificiations, I have taught BA English and Drama seminars at two universities, as well as 'workshop' classes focused on improving study skills. I completed the English Lecturer Training Program at the University of Sussex, which developed my pedagogical skills such as leading group discussions and giving lucid, useful feedback on students' work. This course involved a semester of co-teaching with an experienced lecturer, from whom I learned a great deal.

Tutoring Approach

I try to tailor my tutoring to the needs of each student, so if you have particular requirements or preferred ways of working please let me know. Tuition can vary greatly, from emailed essay feedback to more structured sessions working through past papers or close-reading texts together. Whatever form it takes, I try to be as conscientious, patient and supportive as my own best teachers have been in the past. Feel free to message me if you have any questions, however small.
