Online English and History Tutor

I am an alumna of the University of Oxford with a strong passion for teaching English. I can teach both mainstream and SEN (Special Educational Needs) students, and I can adapt lesson plans to suit a wide range of learning styles and individual needs. I’m committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that brings out the best in every student.

Tutoring Experience

I currently teach English at GCSE level, following the AQA specification. I am uniquely experienced in helping SEN/mainstream students excel. What I love most about teaching English is how it gives everyone a voice. Whether it’s through analysing powerful literature or learning how to express ideas clearly in writing, English empowers students to understand the world around them and articulate their own perspectives.
I'm especially passionate about making English accessible to everyone. I believe that no matter a student’s background or starting point, they should feel confident engaging with texts and developing their own interpretations. I strive to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel heard, respected, and capable.
It’s incredibly rewarding to see a student connect with a poem, unravel the meaning in a novel, or finally feel proud of a piece of writing they’ve crafted. That moment of realisation—“I can do this”—is what excites me most about teaching.

Tutoring Approach

Typical lessons are structured around the individual needs of the student, focusing on their strengths, areas for improvement, and what would be most productive for their progress. I often begin with a five-minute warm-up activity—this could be a short comprehension task or a creative prompt to activate thinking.
The main part of the lesson is tailored to the student’s goals. For example, if a student is preparing for the GCSE AQA English Language paper, we might work on specific questions like Question 3. Other sessions may focus on paragraph structure, understanding context, or improving essay planning.
Throughout the lesson, I provide continuous feedback and adapt activities in real-time based on the students’ responses. My aim is to make each session both engaging and effective, with a clear focus on skill-building and confidence.
My teaching style is calm, encouraging, and adaptable. I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing at their own pace. At the same time, I provide clear structure and goals for each session to make sure we’re always moving forward.
I use interactive tasks—like discussion, timed writing, and step-by-step modelling—to keep students engaged and actively thinking. I regularly check in to see how they’re feeling about the material, and I adjust my approach based on their needs and learning preferences.
Ultimately, I want students to feel supported and capable. Whether they need help building foundational skills or pushing their analysis further, my teaching style is about meeting them where they are and helping them grow with confidence.
