I am based in Derby and live with my two children. I love to read and play with my kids, as well as playing the guitar and playing football and cricket.
I am a secondary Head of Faculty and English teacher. This will be my thirteenth year of teaching and in that time I have taught KS3, KS4 and KS5 English, English Language and English Literature. I have regularly produced strong results as a classroom teacher and my most recent Y11 class - a high ability set of 30 - averaged a Grade 7. Over time, I have taught a wide range of ability levels and managed to get the best out of many of my students.
I think that breaking skills down into their different parts is key. When it comes to analysis, looking at what mark schemes are looking for in terms of language, structure and explanation of effect are examined closely, with lots of practice with different types of text. With writing, looking at how to create effective figurative language, what constitutes an interesting structure, how to use vocabulary effectively and technical writing skills are all things I feel need to be prioritised.
