Jamie

I recently stepped away from a PhD in Pure Mathematics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to co-found an EdTech startup with a friend. Despite this shift, my passion for teaching and mathematics remains as strong as ever, and I find great fulfilment in tutoring students of all ages. A few years ago, I completed an MSc in Applicable Mathematics at LSE with distinction, having previously earned a first-class honours degree in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Nottingham. Prior to that, I attended Reigate Grammar School for my GCSEs and A-Levels. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy producing music, table-top gaming, and immersing myself in the world of film.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored numerous GCSE and A-level students, helping them achieve the grades they deserve and need. My tutoring experience spans a broad range of settings, from supporting students in securing places at their first-choice universities to helping international students adapt to new curricula. On the further ends of the spectrum, I’ve run a junior maths club at Reigate St Mary’s, my alma mater, and led problem classes at LSE, where I worked through challenging problem sets on the whiteboard for large groups of undergraduates.

Tutoring Approach

I take a friendly, confidence-building approach to teaching. If the student hasn’t already expressed their difficulties, I like to identify the particular areas they struggle with and provide numerous examples on the topic. Practising past papers is essential, as it helps highlight the key areas that need improvement. While grasping fundamental concepts is crucial, I firmly believe that in subjects like mathematics, mastering exam techniques is equally important. I also provide my own revision notes for A-level maths and the majority of the further maths syllabus.
