I am a professional opera singer, having worked for English National Opera, Opera North, English Touring Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Opéra de Limoges and Opéra de Rouen.
As an active and experienced professional I am well placed to offer advice to singers of all abilities. I have worked with some of the leading teachers, singers and repetiteurs in the world and would like to impart some of that knowledge on to children and adults alike.
I studied at the Royal Academy of Music London (MA), Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (MMus Opera) and the Royal Irish Academy of Music (BA), receiving honours.
My full-time teachers have included Irene Sandford MBE (former Head of Singing at the RIAM), Kathleen Tynan (Head of Opera at the RIAM), Mark Wildman (Head of Vocal Studies at the RAM), Stephen Robertson (Head of Vocal Studies at the RCS, formerly RSAMD), Raymond Connell and Robert Dean.
I have been privileged to work with some of the worlds leading professionals in opera and song including Thomas Allen, Elly Ameling, Wolfgang Holzmair, Graham Johnson (Young Songmakers Almanac), Marie McLaughlin, Ann Murray, Malcolm Martineau, Dennis O’Neill (Wexford Opera), and Sarah Walker (Oxford Lieder).
I have been teaching singing for 15 years.
I teach opera singers, choir singers, singer/songwriters, pop/rock singers and children.
FEES: £40/hour or £25/30mins
ABILITY LEVELS: Beginners to Advanced
LANGUAGES: English and French
My teaching is based on the classical/opera techniques of breathing, posture and support. These techniques will give your voice more freedom, flexibility, stamina and strength whilst keeping it's natural beauty and colour. Singers from all genres (MT/pop/rock) can benefit from these lessons.
Each pupil will be treated with patience, friendliness and respect. I will write up lesson plans for each pupil's individual needs and proceed to guide them to reach their full potential, be it with or without examination. Lessons will consist of technique, style, interpretation and pronunciation. Each lesson is recorded so the student can listen back to the exercises and tuition.
After my lessons, I hope the student will go away with more self-motivation, self-discipline, confidence and self-expression.
