I am calm, patient and enthusiastic and I have been tutoring since 2010. I have a BSc, BA and a MA. I worked as a medical scientist in both Australia and England, where I was able to put the science I had studied at university into daily, professional practice.
Despite my passion for science, I was drawn back to my first love: English and history, and I studied for a BA , majoring in Literature, followed by a MA in Mediaeval Studies.
I enjoy the opportunities, and challenges, of sharing my knowledge and expertise with my students.

Tutoring Experience

I have been thrilled with the progress that so many of my students have made: not just in the grade improvements (sometimes by as much as 3 grades) but also with their confidence and ability. Success in one area can have a real impact in other aspects of life and school work. Training and supervising students as a senior scientist allowed me to develop skills for tutoring. I have worked with children and teenagers in voluntary roles in school, church and community groups, and I have experience with students whose first language is not English. I also have some experience working with children and adults with special needs, particularly in areas of the autistic spectrum, anxiety issues and dyslexia.
I offer online as well as face to face tutoring, as required, or as circumstances permit.

Tutoring Approach

I am a friendly, calm and patient person. I listen to both the student and parent (where appropriate) to attempt to locate any problems and to plan an individual approach to the subject. Although each student is unique, there are a number of common issues that affect many students, and I have experience, and resources, dealing with them. I am also able to support students with exam and revision techniques. I have studied the requirements of the exam boards, and keep updated on changes and developments, and pay attention to the Examiners’ Reports.
