I am a qualified maths teacher with over 15 years of classroom experience. I now work part time as a maths tutor. This enables me to spend more time with my family (and my springer who is a search and rescue dog for missing people), while still continuing the work I love of teaching maths and enabling others to realise their potential in this often feared subject. I love solving puzzles and problems that maths brings along but totally understand that many do not feel the same!
I have been teaching maths full time for 15+ years in secondary schools including GCSE, A level and post 16 resits. My most recent post was Head of Maths achieving 70+% of pupils achieved C+ grade at GCSE and several A level students achieving 100% in some of their modules. I have been tutoring for over 13 years.
I especially enjoy tutoring as I can personalise the learning, quickly rectifying any mistakes or misunderstandings.
To initially assess problem areas and create a timed plan to overcome them (including homework if required).
To break down the problems to small manageable steps building on what the pupil already knows and is interested in.
To build confidence to tackle maths questions, to smile and laugh while working very hard.
Exam preparation if required, including exam and revision techniques, teaching the pupil to assess themselves to enable more focused revision, revision plan with extra work set and marked if required.
