I have been working as a teacher of GCSE English and Business for two years now. I also have two years experience working as a learning support assistant in a SEND high school for two years, did my teacher training placement at a pupil referral unit for 6 months and spent another year working as a learning support assistant at a technical college before I began teaching for two years. I’m very passionate about teaching in ways that engage and interest students and have taught up to GCSE level. I am DBS approved.
I worked as a learning support assistant at an SEND high school in Sunderland with students with autism and/or learning difficulties from September 2018 until august 2020.
I went to university in September 2020 to do my PGCE English Education and did a 6-month teacher training placement at a pupil referral unit.
September 2021 - August 2022 I worked as a learning support assistant - as part of the SEND department - at a technical college, working with students in year 9 all the way up to year 11. I have undertaken various training courses, many on varying aspects of SEND, such as ASD, visual learning strategies, dyslexia.
Since September 2022 I have been working as a teacher of English and Business to Year 10-11 students doing their GCSEs.
In my current and previous positions I have had the following duties:
Delivering teaching to large or small groups of students.
One-to-one support during lessons.
Planning and marking lessons.
Differentiating work to suit the individual.
Creating resources and schemes of work.
Coming up with strategies to support SEND students throughout their education.
I believe the approach should be tailored to the student. Where possible I try to use topics they’re interested in (such as the ocean or princesses) to teach lessons. I believe a practical approach to learning is also very helpful for many students. I like to use a variety of teaching and learning styles to support those who engage better with visual, auditory, reading and writing, or kinesthetic learning.
