I am a professional Maths tutor with a Cambridge degree in Engineering and a long career spent in Maths-based roles in scientific research and finance. I really enjoy Maths and I really enjoy teaching it on a one-to-one basis. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than helping my pupils to succeed in this important and challenging subject. While normally I teach mainly face-to-face in the areas of Godalming, Surrey and central Guildford, in the difficult current situation due to Coronavirus, by necessity all of my teaching work is now online. Hence I am now able to offer tutoring to new pupils from any location.
I have worked as a tutor for several years now, mainly teaching a mix of GCSE and A level pupils. As a result of the Coronavirus problems, I now teach online mainly via Skype and Zoom. I cover all exam boards and have extensive experience of both Edexcel and AQA. My interest in tutoring was sparked by coaching my son a few years ago to achieve an A grade in A level Maths. I have worked with Maths all my life, having had a long career first as a research physicist and then as a financial analyst in industry and the City of London.
I tailor my tutoring to the individual needs and aptitude of each pupil. I see this tailored approach as one of the key benefits of one-to-one tutoring which can help pupils who maybe struggling a little in the classroom environment. My communication of mathematical ideas and concepts is both clear and methodical and I will take whatever time is necessary to make sure pupils gain a clear understanding of the required mathematical ideas. Then, I help pupils to practice so that they can successfully apply these ideas to problems and gain the necessary speed to succeed in their exams.
