Hello, my name is Jessica.
I have just recently had my first baby and I am looking at expanding my tutoring so I can still continue doing what I love whilst being out of school.
I have 4 years experience teaching science. I teach all science subjects up to KS3 and specialise in chemistry to GCSE level. I have worked in 2 outstanding London secondary schools.
It is important for me to build relationships with my tutees so they can feel comfortable with me and feel that they can ask me anything. I have found one of the biggest barriers in learning is the relationship between the teacher and student. There is no such a thing as a stupid question.
Depending on how you would like to go ahead, I can offer one-off sessions where the student will tell me specifically what they are struggling with for me to offer support in those specific areas.
If the student is not able to identify areas of weakness and would prefer more frequent and structured sessions I will put together progression plan.
For GCSE I focus heavily on the mark schemes and examiner requirements as this is an area students really fall back on. They may have a good understand of the subject but poor exam technique.
For students who want to brush up on exam technique I also offer walk through exam sessions where the student will answer exam questions prior to the session and we both go through their work together so I can give actionable feedback. These sessions are incredibly valuable to students progress.
