Maths and English Tuition in Hackney

I am an experienced, creative and adaptive tutor, supporting young people in a range of settings alongside my work as a freelance contemporary art curator and writer, with organisations including Cell Project Space (London), Turf Projects (London), Centre for Contemporary Arts (Glasgow) and E-flux Magazine. I draw upon my education at Latymer, a North London grammar school, first class degree in English Literature and masters in Curating, combining my passions for literature and art, my critical thinking and writing skills, and knowledge of the higher education system to provide the best support to my students. I additionally mentor a young person with the charity Arts Emergency.

Tutoring Experience

I've tutored independently in London since 2015, working prior to that as a tutor within Manchester primary and secondary schools with the charity Tutor Trust (2013-15). I work with primary, secondary, GCSE and A-level students, specialising in English, History and Art, Craft and Design.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is student-led. Every student learns differently and brings their own concerns and interests to their studies. I believe that there is no single, codified system to fit all students, and a key element of my teaching is in getting to know each individual as we progress through our lessons.

In my experience, confident and successful arts and humanities students are, above all, strong in the courage of their convictions. My role is to combine a detailed and personalised practical approach to lessons with friendly and calm encouragement. By varying between written and spoken analysis, prepared work, and in-session exercises, I develop a holistic approach that nurtures the individual's entry into the subject. I also provide periodic written assessments, to help guide the progress of the student from week to week.

If you would like to book a trial lesson with me, please send me a message.
