I am a 67 year old lady and relocated to Ross on Wye from Kent, in December, following my retirement. My eldest son has 3 children who live in Bristol and my twins have settled in Manchester, following their time at university there. My interests include gardening, cooking, reading and walking.
I taught Maths, science, English and special needs at secondary level at the start of my career and then went on to do home tutoring for children not at school, when my first son was born. I then taught at 2 primary schools, each one for over 12 years, taking the role of Science leader and deputy head. During that time I did home tutoring in the evenings. When I retired the first time, I opened my own tutoring business for several years until I eventually took another part time teaching job. I have experience at all levels up to GCSE in Maths, Science and English.
Confidence is the key - every pupil needs to know that every misconception will be explained, no question is too small. I have taught many children of different ages, levels and abilities but the main thing I have learnt in 40 years of teaching is that success builds confidence and when a child is confident they will take risks in their learning and progress. It is my job to fit the task to the ability of the child so that they succeed, it really is building walls, each brick rests on the one below - old ideas but true. Different types of learners will need different techniques to help them learn best and it's my job to discover and use those methods.
