I am an experience tutor having launched tuitionbyjo in January 2010 and was a primary school teacher for 25 years, married with a son. I have a number of interests including music, reading, cooking and crafts.
PLEASE NOTE - CURRENTLY I HAVE NO AFTER SCHOOL OR WEEKEND AVAILABLITY SO AM ONLY AVAILALBLE TO SUPPORT WITH HOME SCHOOLING WITH WHICH I HAVE EXPERIENCE.
I have been in education for 30+ years in a variety of primary schools and with a variety of tutees. I have taught children throughout this range and my classes have included children with special educational needs, those who are gifted and talented and those who are working within the expected level. My management roles have included being subject lead in mathematics and also as SENCo.
I have also tutored children from 5 to 16 in primary subjects, mathematics, English and science at KS3. I have also worked at GCSE in maths and english with students who have mild to medium learning difficulties I have gained a diploma in educational psychology, and, through Newbury College, a Level 2 and Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Autism as well as a level 2 on understanding dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties.
My tuition successes have included a 100% record at getting children into independent schools, with 2 gaining scholarships, as well as year 6 children who have achieved higher than school expectations in their SATS. My GCSE success rate is also 100% with students gaining passes where they were predicted lower grades, and others gaining higher grades than predicted.
I believe in finding out what the tutee can do and using this to build a program that will enable them to achieve the level they wish. I aim to build confidence and do not focus on failure. I plan each session carefully building on previous sessions and knowledge and understanding of area. Please note that I do not travel as I don't drive.
I am currently branching out into other ways to support students and their parents and will shortly be offering a Facebook group where ideas can be shared, I will also be producing short videos on various topics as well as guides on how to do different things like fractions which will include tips on how to help younger children and how older students can understand the processes involved in order to answer longer questions at GCSE.
I offer a range of packages given the current climate with rising living costs - I hope I can offer something that suits your needs and budget.
