Hi, I’m Joel and I am a qualified maths teacher. I studied for my A-level qualifications at Churston Grammar where I achieved A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics. I completed my Mathematics degree with First Class Honours and am fully trained in secondary school teaching with a PGCE from Hull University. I very much enjoy learning and helping others to learn about these subjects. I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm and helping to expand the knowledge of both struggling and already high-achieving students.
I have been tutoring professionally since 2017, have worked as a Maths Teacher in a secondary school in Devon and recently completed my teacher training to receive Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I prefer tutoring one-to-one but have personally arranged and taught classes of over 40 home-schooled children. I am now working as a qualified maths teacher in secondary schools across Torbay and the South Hams.
I like to explore the reasons and proofs behind certain principles as opposed to just learning facts. I believe that this gives students the edge when it comes to complex questions and tricky variations that exam boards enjoy including in their papers. Knowledge is good but understanding is better.
