Enthusiastic Maths and Physics Tutor with a Masters degree in Physics and experience supporting SEN Students.
Helping students go from struggling in Physics and Maths to actively loving the subjects is extremely rewarding, especially having done the same myself:
When I was a secondary student my (at the time) undiagnosed ADHD and Dyslexia meant I really struggled to achieve passing grades. But against the odds with additional support from a great teacher I went on to not only pass my GCSEs but then to eventually get a 1st class Masters degree in Physics.
I want to provide the same support to other struggling students, to show them despite any difficulties they may face they too can achieve whatever they set their minds to.
I am a 1st class Physics Graduate from the University of Leicester about to start a scholarship from the Institute of Physics for Teacher Training this September.
For the past 3 months+ I have been working as a Teaching assistant for SEN students (including ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia) aged 4-16 years old. Before this, I worked in academic research for 2yrs+, where part of my job was supporting undergraduate students in their studies. I recently decided to make a career change to teaching as that part of my job brought me the most enjoyment.
Outside of work, I have a decade's worth of experience volunteering with young people as a Scout Leader, as well as inside Museums, Libraries and Art Galleries.
Tutoring sessions typically last 30 mins - 1 hr.
My Tutoring approach depends on what my student would like to achieve from our sessions, with a strong emphasis on building confidence in their own ability. This usually takes the form of either General, Specific or Goal Driven Tuition:
General Tuition-
Who is this for?
A student who is struggling in general with a subject.
Approach
Have the student take a test covering a wide range of topics to establish
knowledge gaps in order to form a tailored learning plan.
Specific Tuition-
Who is this for?
A student who is struggling with specific topic(s), or may have missed learning
the topic in the first insistence (e.g. due to illness or changing school).
Approach
Build a bespoke learning plan to introduce/revise specific topic(s).
Goal Driven Tuition-
Who is this for?
A student who is studying for an exam or entrance exam.
Approach
Similar to general tuition the student will first complete practice exams
covering all the content they need to pass. From there, a learning plan with
strong emphasis on exam techniques, common mistakes, and answering
specific questions.
