I am Head of Mathematics at St Bernard's High School Westcliff and looking to support local students with their mathematics in Southend-on-Sea. I am a current A Level Mathematics examiner for Pearson Edexcel and in the past have been an examiner for A Level Mathematics Cambridge OCR A. I love my subject and have many practical resources and strategies to help pupils succeed in Mathematics. I teach from Years 7-13 and have an excellent track record with results of classes and past tutees. When appropriately prepared, mathematics is a fantastic subject, and pupils can reach their full potential with a relaxed tutoring environment. I understand that choosing and hiring a tutor can be stressful, but please take comfort from all of the successful pupils I have had in the past and reviews seen below. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions.
I have a Masters in Education qualification for teaching mathematics and I have taught mathematics at a handful of schools in the Southend-on-Sea area, including Southend High School for Boys, Southend High School for Girls, and Shoeburyness High School, and I have over ten years of teaching experience.
For the past eleven years, I have worked as a tutor with over 50 students, from students through first tutors and other tutoring websites. Regarding tutoring specific A Level topics, I can tutor all new specification topics on the new Linear format for Years 12 & 13, including A Level Further Maths.
Further to this, I have worked with the council to promote the 11+ in our local area. This has involved writing exam papers, providing 11+ lessons and helping students with the stresses and strains of the maths side of the 11+. With my grammar school experience, I fully understand what early-year students require to pass the 11+ and move through the early years at secondary school.
As you can see from my profile, the key to improving a student's Mathematics grade is practice! Whatever year you are in, there is always lots of room for improvement, and students can jump at least two grades to achieve their personal target grade. Quite often, students will lose confidence from poor test scores and unsure how to improve. That is where my experience is needed, and I can make the uphill task of achieving a good grade manageable.
I have many resources for every mathematics topic; short homework tasks between sessions can also be provided. My workstation involves a flexible camera that I use to show students skills and techniques for answering exam-type questions. If students also want to look at specific questions, then these can be sent to me, and I can help show the best approach to gaining full marks.
For Skype lessons, I use a flexible camera, which allows me to show my entire work (identical to how I would do it in person). I combine OneNote and a WACOM Tablet to display workings clearly on the screen.
