I have recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a master’s degree in Development Studies. Currently, I am dividing my time between freelance journalism, exploring sub-Saharan Africa and private tutoring/teaching.
I have been a tutor for around seven years, a period during which I had the opportunity to work with a range of different students, including students preparing for their A-levels, university students preparing for their final exams or casual learners.
My speciality is Economics but I also have some experience with tutoring Maths, Politics and Philosophy.
I am happy to help with the preparation for:
- A-levels
- university exams
- offer essay-writing seminars
- provide essay feedback
- assist in essay editing
or help with the university admissions process.
I believe that the key to helping students make the best out of their academic potential lies in a personalised and positive teaching attitude. Therefore, I am trying to get to know my students well, and in my lessons, I put a lot of emphasis on creating a friendly, relaxed and engaging environment and space for critical inquiry and thinking – conditions I consider essential for encouraging learning.
The specific structure of my lessons depends on the subject and learning needs of a given student, but I typically combine:
i) answering questions
ii) giving brief explanations of key theoretical concepts
iii) providing feedback on student’s individual work, and
iv) discussing the topic in more depth, or doing additional exercises – to ensure a proper understanding of the subject matter and explain any potential misunderstandings.
In the case of A-level tutoring, my main areas of focus are exam techniques, essay writing practice and going over topics students do not feel fully confident about yet.
