Hi! My name is Joe. I am currently a 4th year graduate medical student at St. George’s, University of London. My previous degree was in Biomedical Science, in which I specialised in genetics and genomic medicine. I have a particularly interest in how genomics can be applied to rare diseases and cancers.
I have had previous experience teaching whilst at college in which I had to take on lead role in teaching an after school club at the local primary school. I have also had numerous tutoring and teaching opportunities whilst studying. From whole classrooms, to conducting 1-to-1 tutoring I have encouraged learning and enthused students to be the best they can be.
I use a co-operative self led approach that encourages students to figure out what they “don’t know”. This is turn allows them to develop their own learning practice, how to recognise ‘weak spots’ in their knowledge and responsibility for finding out the information for themselves. This creates a much more robust learning platform, allowing for future growth in knowledge in higher education, without the shock of the increased breadth of knowledge and different style of learning that is expected in most degrees.
