Hello there, my name is Joseph. I am an experienced tutor of mathematics having tutored the subject for over five years at all levels of the high school curricula. I attended the University of Strathclyde where I graduated with a BSc in Mathematics. I am currently offering tuition in maths from 1st year of high school through to advanced higher.
Here is some of what I have to offer:
- Travel out to you at no extra cost
- PVG scheme certified
- Custom-made homework booklets
- Personally written Guide to Studying
- Customised tests if required
- Complimentary out-of-lesson text support
As a member of the PVG scheme Scotland – my full criminal record is persistently checked to ensure I am suitable for work with protected vulnerable groups (children and vulnerable adults). You may request to view my certification any time you wish.
I come fully equipped with all levels of TeeJay maths textbooks (which are used by the majority of schools in Scotland), as well as a laptop. All you will require is pen and paper.
Having tutored over 80 individuals - all varying in level, age and personality - I am not only very familiar with the course material, but also how to adapt and then deliver the material to the tutee in the way which works best for them.
You will be able to see the many 5-star reviews some of my former and present clients have left me at the bottom of this page.
One of the biggest strengths to one-to-one tuition is the ability for the teacher to adapt to the learner. In a classroom setting this is the other way around, and if they fall behind or don’t click with the way the material is delivered, there is sadly very little recourse.
As a tutor, I am able to tailor the lessons to each individual in the way that is most effective for them. Alongside that, I tend to follow the Socratic method widely used by educators globally. Asking questions which encourage critical thinking and problem solving skills to enable the learner to eventually find the answer by themselves rather than giving it to them without much in the way of explanation as to how one might arrive to the answer on their own.
My job is not only to help with passing tests and exams, but perhaps even more importantly - to help people become better mathematicians and better independent thinkers.
