I am an Architect at Foster + Partners, but am keen to develop my practice to include teaching and educating as I believe that passing on expertise and knowledge is as important and honing these things for personal application.
I have some formal experience being invited back to the Bartlett School of Architecture where I graduated to give talks to the first years about design, drawing and hand modelling, and my projects. This has happened several times since I graduated but also as I was a student there.
The majority of my development as a teacher has happened informally through helping to develop the projects of my peers while at university. They would ask for a session to develop their projects conceptually, in terms of structure and detailing, and visually. Over the years that this happened it became something more regular with particular friends who struggled.
My approach is broad to suit the person and/or what is being focussed on. I believe in being lead by the student as much as possible in terms of making the most of the underlying interests that they have in the field and channelling that into areas that they are weaker on. This can take shape through navigating an array of different mediums, examples, references, films, books, etc.
