I am an experienced English teacher, adopting the latest and advanced methods and approaches to my teaching. I am a successful teacher at an Ofsted Outstanding school in the heart of Tunbridge Wells and I currently teaching English language and English literature to students in Years 7-11
I am a caring, open and enthusiastic teacher, striving to help all my students do their very best. My aim is to enrich students’ experience of reading, writing and speaking and listening by fostering a delight in literature and empowering young people with a mastery of the English language.
Before teaching, I worked in the advertising industry. This experience gives me a unique perspective on life beyond education and on the variety of careers open to students today.
I have experience teaching a challenging and diverse KS3 curriculum which focuses on furthering students’ knowledge of the English language and their capacity to use it both expressively and analytically, building upon the foundations laid in KS2.
At GCSE, my day-to-day teaching follows the AQA GCSE English language and English literature specification. I have also experience teaching the Eduqas GCSE English Literature and Language course curriculum.
Moreover, I have experience teaching students with a range of SEND and learning needs, including dyslexia, ASD, as well as learning English as an additional language. I also have experience successfully tutoring for Tunbridge Wells' selective grammar schools' entrance exams (11+/ Kent Test).
My approach is flexible depending on your child’s needs. I offer the skills and strategies to both support students with English holistically, as well as those to target areas that may need supporting more closely.
You’ll find reading at the core of my approach. Reading unlocks new vocabulary, exposes young people to a range of texts and writing styles, and promotes enjoyment of the subject. I firmly believe reading is fundamental for students’ success during their time at school, not just in English.
