Hi! My name is Katherine, and my background is in particle physics. I have always loved both maths and physics and completed a PhD at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva on the hunt for dark matter.
I’ve been teaching one way or another for the last four years - from groups of undergraduates at university to tutoring students up to GCSE level. My goal is always to build up confidence, and we’ll tackle the hardest problems until they seem just like the easy ones!
Interest in a subject makes it ten times easier to learn, and I want my students to love maths much as I do. While most of our lessons will be focused on schoolwork, we might agree on some time to discuss fractals and infinity, chaos theory and quantum physics (yes, with my pre-GCSE students too!). Exploring topics beyond the curriculum can fire the imagination and give a huge confidence boost - when you've dived into such complex topics, an unfamiliar problem exam problem is a lot less daunting! Or maybe maths is more interesting when it's practical, and we'll explore real world problems grounded in everyday life. Whatever the right approach is, we'll find it!
