I’m an enthusiastic qualified teacher of English who is passionate about the subject and who wants to help students achieve their full potential. I’ve been teaching for over three years now having qualified from UCL on the Teach First programme. Before teaching I worked in luxury hospitality; mainly in hotels such as The Dorchester, and most recently at Harrods. I’ve found the career change to be really rewarding and find real joy in helping students foster a love for the subject like I have.
I have worked three years in London based secondary schools as well as in Spain for a year as a teaching assistant in a primary school. I have also had experience working with young people in areas other than teaching, such as shadowing a ski school for several months while I lived in Granada, Spain as part of my year abroad.
I am an approachable and friendly teacher who sets high expectations for my students. I embed various different strategies for teaching such as using the scaffolded reading experience, dual coding and meta cognition strategies for accessibility, motivation and creative tasks. One of the methods I use to stretch and challenge students is questioning, and I find linking learning to prior knowledge helps the students make links. I currently teach mixed ability and setted classes so I ensure each lesson is pitched so that it stretches more able students while still scaffolded enough to allow every student to access the learning.
