Hello, my name is Katie and I am a fully qualified languages teacher. I offer one to one, online, and group sessions for primary and secondary school students. I specialise in German and can prepare students for both GCSEs and A-levels and I can tutor French up to KS3. I also offer sessions for adults, who are looking to learn a new language.
I completed the PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages in 2015 and taught German up to A-level and French up to year 9 at Langley Park School for Boys from September 2015-July 2023. I was Head of the Modern Foreign Languages Department and was therefore responsible for designing the curriculum and creating all of my own resources from scratch. I left Langley in the summer to be an Assistant Headteacher at Valence School in Westerham, which is a school for students with special educational needs. At Valence school, I teach German and communication.
I strongly believe in the importance of getting to know my students and tailoring the lessons to suit their individual needs - there is never a one size fits all approach. I believe in a communicative approach to languages teaching, with lots of focus on speaking. Lessons will be engaging and dynamic with a variety of resources. There will be a calm and friendly atmosphere to ensure students feel comfortable and motivated to learn. Songs and games for the appropriate age range will be used to help reinforce topics. All four skills (listening, reading, writing, and speaking) plus translation will be covered. Students will also benefit from extra support via email.
