Hi, I'm Kieran--an Aeronautical Engineer specialising in flight dynamics & control. Passionate about my job, I work on the attitude & orbital control systems in a European micro-launch system (read, control systems onboard a small rocket..!), and I enjoy sharing this context and enthusiasm with my students. I use the theory learned during my degree every day - applying a first-principles approach to shape the dynamics of the systems I work on.
History:
I graduated Imperial College in 2019 and now have 5+ years professional experience, working in vehicle dynamics, simulation and control groups using control theory and software design to boost vehicle performances in Formula One, multicopter/robotic design, and now orbital launch vehicles. A control engineer in a small startup, I work alongside multiple technical groups--ranging from Mechanical & Aerodynamic design to Electronics & Software--and I leverage an understanding of each field to aid these interactions. To do this, I rely on a strong grasp of the fundamentals and an aptitude for quick research and understanding.
Currently offering sessions for a range of topics up to Masters level, including but not limited to:
Available for summer review sessions, extra-curricular project support, in-term course content review, exam/resit preparation. I look forward to meeting you--don't hesitate to reach out!
During my career I have focussed on building an "understanding-first" approach to the technical content--so I'm confident across the majority of engineering-related fields, including Maths, Physics, and Programming (GCSE, A-level, University level, or equivalents). As a professional I rely on a very solid understanding of the fundamentals and have worked solely in small teams, so I am able to communicate these concepts clearly.
In the initial session, we'll begin with a chat to understand your situation & expectations, and so we can get to know each other. After that, we'll set goals and assess your strengths & weaknesses in the subject. This allows me to create a plan so that my approach is tailored specifically to your targets and personality. Then we get stuck in.
I believe that the traditional classroom rarely provides the adequate context for students to understand why you learn each skill, and how it is used in real life. So I also try to convey an understanding how each skill is used in an engineering context. I believe this significantly increases your engagement with the content.
In term-time, we will focus on course syllabus and exam technique in order to maximise your grades. During summer, we can work to build your knowledge of a supporting discipline with a project of your choice (e.g. statistics, programming).
I offer virtual classes only. I use Google Meet and a virtual whiteboard in order to explain concepts clearly.
I am working full-time alongside my tutoring workload so I tend to avoid sessions in the middle of the day. Fortunately my job allows me to flexible, so generally I can be flexible in the time and duration for each class, and react as required to what you need.
