I have been a chemistry tutor for more than 20 years, guiding and helping students from all backgrounds. I encourage parents to come along to the first lesson so that their mind is put at rest that their child is in a safe environment. There is a nice pub (Duke of Wellington) within walking distance where one can chill out while waiting for the tuition to finish.
I did my PGCE in Exeter, and then taught Chemistry in Bristol for several years at the John Cabot CTC. Later I returned to Manchester to settle and gained an MSc in Chemistry. During this time, I taught at a school in Northwich and also acted as a private tutor for Manchester and surrounding villages in Cheshire. After my MSc, I taught at the South Cheshire college. After that I moved to Durham where I taught in Newton Aycliffe as a cover teacher. Since I became a mum soon after finished at Newton Aycliffe, I decided to only work as an examiner and I'm a private tutor in Durham
My aim is to provide students with confidence and the right tools to prepare for their exams. This may take several forms, including:
1. Homework
2. Past paper questions
3. Answering questions skills
4. Preparation for the coming exams in terms of time management
5. Highlight and understand the meaning of questions
In addition, I contact my students several days before they are due to come for lessons so that I can focus on their problems and prepare the necessary back up notes to facilitate their learning.
Usually, for the first tuition session, I would require students to bring along their notes and textbooks, so that we can decide which the appropriate material to use. Because I also work as an assistant examiner, I can advise students on how to tackle and answer exam papers and questions. Especially, explain how their marks are awarded to enable students to maximise their grades.
