I am a fully qualified teacher of maths with over 20 years experience working in the classroom and tutoring one to one in student's homes and more recently online. Over this time I have taught maths to students over a wide range of abilities and ages. I have been a Head of Department as well as a mentor for Newly Qualified Teachers.
Some of my most rewarding time was as both a Form Tutor as well as a Head of Year. I have been incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to work on the side of Pastoral care of students as well as share my passion for maths! In particular, my experience working with anxious students and those facing a variety of mental health challenges, has helped me develop a great understanding of those barriers that many students are facing in schools today.
Over the past few years I have moved to be fully focussed on one to one tutoring which has been incredibility rewarding. I love to see students gain in confidence over our lessons and whilst I appreciate that some of my students may not love maths as much as I do, I can help them secure the exam grade they need to open up more choices and opportunities in their future.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 20 years experience teaching maths from Year 7 to 11, including GCSE Foundation and Higher tier. My most enjoyable experiences have been working with students who have always found maths challenging. I understand that not everyone loves Maths as much as I do, but I know how vital it is to achieve a good grade at GCSE in order to open up the next chapter of study at college or elsewhere. My recent experience in school as well as the consistent efforts I maintain to be fully up to date on the exam requirements for all exam boards, mean that I can provide targeted support to increase exam success.

Tutoring Approach

For me, Maths tuition is all about giving you the extra boost to be your absolute best at crunch time in the GCSE exams. After our first lesson I can tailor your maths tuition to your specific strengths and weaknesses in different topics. Each lesson starts with confidence building skills reviews that are mark grabbers for your GCSE papers. We then move onto more in-depth study of topics to strengthen your understanding and confidence. This will involve working through examples and looking at commonly used exam questions and language.
