I love teaching and learning! I achieved an A grade in Maths at both GCSE and A-level and then went on to get a 1st class BA Honours degree in Accounting and Finance.
I am a native speaker of both French and English (achieving A* and Double A respectively at GCSE), and growing up in a bilingual household gave me a passion for languages. Before heading off to Cambridge to get my degree, I moved to Spain for a year to acquire my 3rd language. After university I put dreams of teaching on hold to progress with my graduate job in Central London where I stayed for almost 10 years. After that I decided to get back to my true passion and acquired my teaching qualification with Cambridge English to become CELTA qualified. Aside from private tutoring in Maths and English I also teach English to speakers of other languages (ESOL) or English as a foreign language (EFL) in a college for adults.
I have a wide range of experience from helping children in Year 1 and 2 to expand their literacy and numeracy skills, to primary school students working towards their SATs to working with GCSE students on English literature and of course adult speakers of other languages to gain fluency and accuracy in spoken and written English.
I also ran afterschool science clubs as a part time job during my time at university, so between that and teaching adults, I have plenty of experience teaching all ages from 4 years old up to 74!
I don't believe that one size fits all. Children especially, but adults too, can often feel left behind in large groups because the teacher does not have the resources to cater to their needs. In a one to one setting, I like to adapt my teaching strategies to each student so that we can work towards your personal goals together.
I am passionate about learning and like to read up on the latest techniques and research into memory training, learning and revising. It has been proven that when we are disengaged and bored, there is little to zero chance of us retaining information. For that reason my sessions are dynamic and upbeat, designed to motivate and stimulate the mind into learning and remembering.
