published works, showcasing his expertise in areas
such as guidance-fading retrieval approaches and motivation-fostering storytelling in science, have earned
national recognition in TES and contributed to his success in driving positive academic outcomes in schools.
During Lewis' tenure as an assistant headteacher, he provided invaluable support to his colleagues in developing new, ambitious, and carefully sequenced curriculums. He ensured that knowledge was progressively built over the course of five years, while coaching teachers on evidence-based techniques that underpinned lessons. Lewis' focus on retrieval practice, explicit instruction, and effective use of formative assessment led to students becoming increasingly proficient at recalling and transferring prior learning. Furthermore, he trained staff in refining their assessment procedures, enabling them to skillfully identify emerging expertise among their students and adapt instruction accordingly. These efforts were recognized by OFSTED, which commended the school for addressing the development points from previous inspections, and the significant positive impact this work had on student outcomes.
As the Science Lead for a Multi-Academy Trust, Lewis facilitated cross-phase curriculum development for five partnered schools. By fostering collegial collaboration, science leaders were coached in critically appraising literature that informed their curricula, enabling them to refine their approaches to retrieval, assessment, and feedback. Additionally, subject network meetings facilitated safe and open discussions on best practices in curriculum sequencing, ultimately supporting partnered schools in enhancing their curriculum design, implementation, and assessment.
As Director of Innovation and Research, identified the challenges faced by his students. In response, he redeveloped the science curriculum by incorporating innovative approaches such as guidance-faded retrieval practice, techniques for imparting powerful knowledge, and expanding students' understanding beyond their lived experiences, thus aiding them in remembering and gaining more knowledge. These approaches were commended by Her Majesty's Inspectors, who noted that the students were inspired by teaching in science. In the lower school, the students' performance improved by 30%, and the number of students opting for triple science quadrupled in two years, making science a unique selling point of his former school.
believe in finding a way for every student to learn.
Your lessons will be carefully sequenced to ensure you can retain and apply knowledge from my carefully sequenced science and maths curriculum.
I specialise in delivering GCSE Biology, Physics, Maths and Chemistry tailored to the AQA and EDEXCEL specification.
Having marked exam papers for 7 years, I know what examiners look for.
As one of the UK’s few certified expert teachers, you can expect lessons which are highly effective in delivering the knowledge you need.
Lessons will begin with a low stakes, exciting retrieval exercise which will boost your confidence, secure your understanding of subject specific vocabulary and highlight how much you already understand.
Following some feedback from the quiz, I will then deliver all of the information you need in a way which carefully considers how much information you can remember at any given time. I will model concepts in multiple ways before checking your understanding. Using videos, stories, images and models I will bring lessons to life and, most importantly make them memorable.
I will then coach you through common questions which appear on exam questions and provide detailed feedback which not only provides the correct answers but explains them in detail.
This sequencing will ensure you make rapid progress and will close any gaps in your knowledge.
I look forward to working with you.
Best wishes,
Mr Lewis Removed, MA.
