I currently teach A-level chemistry in a local independent school. I have a first class MChem and PhD in Chemistry from The University of Liverpool. I hold qualified teacher status (QTS) and completed my PGDE and teacher training in the acacdemic tyear 2017-2018. I was awarded a Royal Society of Chemistry scholarship to complete my teacher training which provided additional training and support.
I have been tutoring students of all abilities for over 10 years to successfully go on to University, many of which have chosen Medicine or Dentistry. Most recently I have worked in a secondary school delivering lessons to GCSE students in Biology and Chemistry as well as KS3 science (Biology, Physics and Chemistry). Each year I take on GCSE and A-level students which I tutor in my home or on-line using Microsoft Teams.
My approach to tutoring is to find out the areas that the student would like to initially work on, e.g. A-level mechanisms, understanding mass spectrometry. That helps me establish where to start in our first session. I can then identify what the student may need to work on which is quite often confidence. Many students need reassurance in their abilities by experiencing success during our sessions. I make sure that topics are revisited frequently to ensure mastery.
