I am an experienced music teacher with an interest in all types of music. I am a singer, pianist and saxophonist, and love performing in choirs and bands. I also very much enjoy accompanying soloists for recitals and exams. I conduct choirs at every school I work at, and several years ago, won the BBC School Choir of the Year competition for the second time!
I have been teaching for about 20 years, firstly as a piano teacher, and then subsequently, as a classroom teacher. I specialise in A level, but am also experienced at GCSE and KS3. Having run the music department at a Performing Arts school for 17 years, I now am Head of Performing Arts at a local secondary school, specialising in music.
I believe that building confidence is key to learning - students must be able to take risks in order to develop, and providing a 'safe' learning environment is very important. I have a relaxed approach to teaching and enjoy an excellent relationship with my students here at school. Students feel comfortable to ask questions and participate in lessons, and we often have a laugh whilst learning!
