Hi, I'm Lorna and I love maths and helping other people understand it (and maybe even come to love it themselves...) :)

Tutoring Experience

I completed the first year of a Maths and Physics degree some (ahem) years ago, but didn't complete it due to illness. However, I have since completed a number of different qualifications including studying with the Open University, as I retrain as a therapeutic counsellor (having spent time as a professional opera singer!)

I have done a lot of 1-2-1 tuition over the years, and have always achieved great results with my students, with many "ohhhh I get it now!" moments along the way, which are my favourite :)

Tutoring Approach

I pride myself on finding new and counter-intuitive ways to teach mathematical concepts - the nature of our overstretched school system is that teachers can't always tailor their approach to individual students (despite their desire to do just that, I imagine) and with something like maths where plenty of students have been told that it's "hard" or "not for them", sometimes it takes a creative approach to help get to that lightbulb moment.
