I have just recently graduated from the University of Leeds with a first class degree in English Literature and have been tutoring for nearly 2 years, predominantly online. I have a deep passion for music and education, and my dream is to establish a community centre where teaching and arts practices, including English and creative writing, are at the heart of its programme. I have tutored alongside uni as well as having worked in numerous hospitality environments. I currently have two part-time jobs working as Project Support for a housing ITLA and working as an Outreach and Marketing Lead for a music tech startup. I also programme and produce music events on the side.
I have experience teaching children and young adults ranging from 7 years old to 20 years old. I have worked with children and YA in preparations for SATs, 11+, GCSE and A-Level as well as working more generally in increasing confidence and helping kids who are behind in school. I have also taught ESOL to asylum seekers, and young children who live abroad. I have taught, predominantly online, for nearly 2 years now and really enjoy my lessons, engaging young people to care about their education and working towards shared goals. I predominantly have tutored on tutoring agencies, though I also have taught independently, scheduling all my own lessons. I enjoy seeing my students gain confidence and ultimately achieve their academic goals and reach their potential.
My teaching structure is shaped around and led by the students’ needs and I work to develop long-term solutions, rather than providing quick fixes that don't guarantee success. I am always well prepared for lessons and have a plan in place, however always like to incorporate spontaneity and usually align the lessons close to the students need or struggles at that time. Confidence is key and my tutoring gives my students more confidence in class, and in their ability, whatever level they are. My tutoring will look closely at past-exam papers and potential questions, avoiding quick-fixes and establishing a strong and wide-ranging understanding, which will all, in turn, hopefully bring my students grades up.
