Hello! I'm Louise, a qualified English teacher, turned full-time tutor and GCSE examiner, specialising in secondary English, GCSE examination, home schooling, KS2 English, 11+/ 13+ and entrance exam tuition, and A-Level English. I offer online tuition (Skype/Zoom) for all areas of English, including English as a second language. I also offer services in copywriting, editing, proofreading, and academic writing consultancy.
I have experience in tutoring students from KS2 through to University level, teaching English as a second language and assisting with all elements of academic writing as well as copy writing. I have degrees from both Lancaster University and The University of Brighton in my subject, have varied teaching experience within secondary, upper school and sixth form settings and now work full time within the private tuition and copy writing sector.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE GCSE RESIT EXAMINATION - Did your son/daughter not achieve that essential GRADE 4 in their English Language GCSE this August? Prepare them for the November/May retake with a qualified teacher who specialises in helping students pass their resits.
My tutoring services include: Secondary English, English GCSE, English GCSE resit examinations, English home-schooling, English as a second language, A Level Literature, A Level Language, all levels of literacy/comprehension for the casual/adult learner, University English Literature, proof reading and editing, copy writing, thorough and accurate marking, CV/personal statement/UCAS application writing and assistance, interview preparation, and consultancy and assistance in academic writing.
My BA Hons degree in English and PGCE in English Education, coupled with my role as a qualified teacher and examiner make me a natural option to be a private tutor. I'm professional, friendly, and patient with my tutees and I aim to inspire, encourage, and help them achieve. I have experience in working with all ability levels and helping with all needs and requests within English as a subject. I tutor because I believe it is the most rewarding context in which to teach and foster development and progress. All tuition is tailored and personalised to the individual with a focus on helping the learner succeed.
My experience spans teaching in secondary and upper schools in Brighton, Cambridge, and teaching in the North West. I hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have a history of achieving excellent results for students of all levels.
As well as GCSE and resits, my experience includes teaching students where English is a second language, teaching A Level Literature, home-schooling (removing the need for a school setting entirely), and examining for AQA which has afforded me a unique insight into how to fulfil the assessment objectives required in the exams.
In a previous post, I was responsible for organising and preparing students for their English GCSE resits. One of my specialist areas is helping students to pass their English GCSE using focused intervention methods, where they have previously not made the grade. Former responsibilities have included teaching and preparing students from all over Cambridgeshire for resit English GCSE to allow them to go on to a vocational course or employment.
I have a relaxed and supportive approach to tutoring and aim to help boost the learner's grades/confidence/skills in all areas of English as a subject. The tuition I provide will work at the pace of the learner and will aim to fulfil their needs and goals for achievement, through hiring a private tutor. All tutoring sessions will be individual and personal to the client and their requirements.
I follow the learner's lead when it comes to private tuition and can work through materials chosen by the tutee, or alternatively can provide work sheets/practice exam papers/set tasks that I think would help advance the learner's individual needs and ability. For exam syllabuses, all materials are provided by me and are in keeping with the curriculum and exam requirements.
KS3/4 TUTORING:
I can assist the learner with all aspects of English from using punctuation correctly to textual analysis, and all that lies between. Whether your child needs extra support to complement what they are learning in class or whether they need a boost to help them become a higher achiever, I can provide an individual and personal service.
GCSE TUTORING:
I have an up to date knowledge of the curriculum and new numerical grading system that is now being used in UK schools. I can offer help with understanding and analysis of any literary text currently being taught for GCSE Literature, revision tips and advice, support with practice exam papers (all major exam boards), thorough and accurate marking of practice exam papers, help with evaluating, understanding and writing about non-fiction texts (in the style of the GCSE English Language exam), guidance with writing creatively, and help with all aspects of literacy.
ENGLISH GCSE RESIT EXAMS:
If your son or daughter didn't get the grade 4 or above that they had hoped for in their results this summer, they will have been entered to resit their examination next year as part of a compulsory incentive to raise literacy rates and qualifications. I can help the learner work towards achieving their GCSE through targeted and individual intervention.
A LEVEL LITERATURE AND UNIVERSITY LEVEL TUTORING:
My subject specialism is Literature, and I welcome A Level or University students who require support and advice with their dissertation/essays/coursework/thesis, or need guidance with academic writing, application of critical theory or analytical reading skills. I have an up-to-date knowledge of the A Level Literature curriculum, and can assist with all areas of study for a wide range of literary texts.
