I recently graduated from the University of Leeds with an Integrated Masters in Natural Sciences, specialising in Chemical Biology. My research focused on the impact of nutrition on disease, building on my strong interest in medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and synthetic chemistry. Alongside my studies, I was actively involved in the university music scene as a drummer and Musical Director for one of the big bands, performing everything from formal society balls to headline gigs. I’m also passionate about sport, particularly running and swimming, which I enjoy both for fitness and for the social connections it brings.
I have 3 years of tutoring experience, ranging from the MyTutor Schools Programme — supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds who could greatly benefit from extra help — to tailored private tuition. I have taught both one-to-one and in small groups (up to three students) across Maths, Chemistry, and Biology, from KS3 through to GCSE and A Level, and have received consistently positive feedback from students and parents alike.
One highlight was working with an A Level Chemistry student who struggled with the quantitative side of the subject, particularly reaction calculations. We built their skills step by step, using targeted tips, tricks, and plenty of practice, while also developing a rapport that made these once-dreaded questions something they genuinely enjoyed tackling. Just a few months later, they achieved their highest-ever mark in Chemistry in their AS exams — a proud moment for both of us and a reminder of what personalised, student-led teaching can achieve.
I believe in a student-led approach to tuition. My goal is to create a learning environment that is the complete opposite of the traditional classroom — a place where students feel comfortable admitting, “I just don’t understand this” without any fear or embarrassment. Instead of brushing past these moments, we take the time to break concepts down and explore them in detail, ensuring real understanding. I encourage students to come to each session with an idea of what they’d like to focus on, so we can make our time together as relevant and effective as possible.
For my younger learners, tuition is just as much about mentoring as it is about teaching. I aim to build a positive, encouraging atmosphere that fosters curiosity and confidence. By helping children develop not only their skills but also a healthy attitude toward learning, we create the foundation for lasting educational success — and a mindset that sees challenges as opportunities to grow.
