I am a Second Year German student at the University of Oxford, where my degree is heavily based in literature alongside the linguistic elements of learning a language. I have 11 GCSES, all Grade 8/9 and at A-Level, I achieved 3 A*s in German, English Literature and History.
I have previously tutored for a short time before my A-Level Exams and throughout Sixth Form, I taught Lower School English once a week, in which we analyses poetry and novels in preparation for GCSE classes. I ran English and German GCSCE/A-Level revision sessions in Year 13. Over the summer, I worked at an International Summer School, where I conduced workshops/lessons in German. I have also experience working in a primary school, especially amongst the older year groups as they prepare to go into Secondary School .
I am a patient and calm teacher, allowing pupils time to make mistakes and then subsequently learn from them with my aid. I believe that working through exercises and questions together is a good starting point to built a student's confidence and we will eventually work together to get to a point where the pupil 'teaches' me, explaining to me why their thought process, reasoning and why an answer is correct.
When teaching German, I like to find patterns, acronyms, etc to make grammar structures and concepts easier for a non-native speaker to digest and understand. I use materials from children's books and materials from German speaking countries suitable to the student's level, so teach grammar and vocabulary on the backdrop of 'real-world' use of the language.
