I have been teaching German to A Level and French to GCSE for 15 years and I was Head of the MFL department at a top London grammar school for 10 years. I have recently become a mother to two young boys and so, I am waiting until they are of school age to continue my career in teaching.
My parents are both teachers and moved to Germany when I was 4. I grew up just outside Frankfurt and returned to the UK for university. It was here where I developed a love for language learning and studied Spanish to GCSE and French and German at University.
I did my teacher training at the University of Nottingham and have been teaching since I qualified in 2006 and leading the MFL department at a London grammar school since 2009.
I have been OFSTED graded - outstanding for 15 consecutive years.
I was born in England, but grew up in Germany. I have the advantage of being able to empathise with the difficulties English speakers face when learning German (and French!).
I have a Joint Honours French and German degree (2:1) from Loughborough University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Nottingham .
My students consistently gain some of the highest GCSE and A Level grades in the country. Most recent GCSE results: 92% Grade 9-7 and most recent A Level results: 100% Grade A-B.
In addition to teaching, I have co-authored the latest Edexcel German A Level textbook (under my maiden name Lucy Lister). I have also authored a wide range of exam based resources for the Times Education Supplement, which are available to purchase on their website.
Having been a full time teacher and a mother of two young boys has meant that I have not had time pursue private tuition. However, with my recent decision to take a career break, I can now focus on this new challenge. I am certain that my vast experience of classroom teaching, excellent subject knowledge and my Exam Board training will assist me in my transition to this new role.
As well as using as much target language as possible and sharing my passion for both French and German culture, I also focus on exam technique. I have prepared students for the Edexcel, AQA and OCR exam boards.
Having worked at a grammar school I specialise in stretching gifted and talented students towards the top grades but I also cater for students who are yet to push past a grade 5 by using a range of differentiated strategies and resources. One of my strengths that has continuously been highlighted in my performance reviews is my ability to stretch each individual to reach their true potential in the examinations.
As part of my role as Head of Department, I have attended a vast number of in-house Exam Board training. I have led staff training on examination technique and how to deploy skills in ways that enable the examiner to award top marks.
My lessons aim to push my students to achieve their best in a relaxed and approachable manner. I am passionate about language learning, highly experienced and an expert in the field.
