I am a Lecturer in Chemistry at Edge Hill University. I enjoy teaching, it keeps you sharp!
I did my undergraduate degree at the University of East Anglia in Norwich (2011) then my PhD at the University of Sheffield (2015). Since then I have worked in research roles at Durham University (2016), Imperial College London (2017-2019), University of York (2019-2023) and Liverpool University (2024) before accepting a Lectureship at Edge Hill University this year.
I work Monday-Friday and finish work at 5pm so I would generally be available in the evenings from 6pm onwards, or at the weekends .
I have been teaching and mentoring students since I started my PhD in 2011. Even though most of my professional roles have been research-based, I have taken opportunities to teach where possible. I have mentored students on a one-to-one basis, delivered small-group tutorial sessions (5 ish people), delivered workshop-style sessions to classes of 30-50 people and given lectures to rooms of over 100 students.
I am happy to teach Chemistry across a range of levels from GSCE through to University level. But with my strong science background, I am also happy to teach Maths, Physics and Biology up to GCSE level.
I am new to First Tutors so my profile is a little basic at the moment. Don't let that put you off, please get in touch if you have any questions
I offer a friendly and casual learning environment because we always achieve our best when we are relaxed. I encourage students to think critically about their learning experience and try to pinpoint exactly which parts of a topic they enjoy and which they need more support with. Once we know which topics make you a little less confident, we can focus on that and make significant improvements overall. Most importantly, I will respond to your needs, follow your direction and work with you at your pace to reach your goals!
The first session will be either online or in a public place, so that you can get to know me and decide if I am the right tutor for you. It will be an informal chat about the student's needs, aspirations and preferred learning style so will be charged at 50% rate.
After that, we work on a format and in a place that suits you.
