I love to travel and explore the less trodden parts of this world. I believe it is by this that we can best understand each other and expand our comfort zones.
I hold a Masters Degree in Film Aesthetics. Before teaching the subject on a technical level, I was an award-winning filmmaker. I am fascinated by film and can talk about them until everyone has left the room, and even afterwards.
I teach film production at a university and I hold a PGCHE in Teaching and Support Learning.
I have significant experience in teaching students at university level from individuals to lectures of 50. But I also have tutored Mathematics and English privately for over ten years, with particular success in helping students pass 11+ and prepare for GCSEs.
There is a large amount of mathematics, applied and core, that I teach to my students to assist in technical aspects of film production. Lenses and optics, sound recording and film budgeting and planning, all require a strong proficiency in mathematics.
I firmly believe that the teacher must adhere their teaching style to the learning style of the student. Some students prefer a hands-on approach, others are visual, some love analogies whilst some just want to attempt and refine a single approach.
What I absolutely love about teaching is that a different approach, no matter how subtle, is always required. And it always pays off at that 'penny drop' moment.
