Teacher at Eton College. DPhil (PhD) Oxford University. Experience in admissions.
I grew up in a large family in Northern Ireland. At an early age I became interested in ideas and in writing. This took me to university, where I graduated top of my class, after which I completed a doctorate at Oxford University, where I also taught undergraduate students. I am now in my sixth year teaching at Eton College and I am writing my first book. In my spare time, I enjoy watching rugby, playing guitar, and hiking in the mountains.
Here is what I can help with:
ISEB pre-tests. English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
11+ entry tests for independent schools. English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Scholarship Examinations (Westminster, Winchester, etc.). Note that I cannot tutor students preparing to sit the Eton College King's Scholarship Exams.
Eton College (6 years).
Oxford University.
When students are taught in large groups, it's difficult for a teacher to give each student detailed feedback and guidance. Through First Tutors, I offer to students one-to-one what can't be offered to them at school. I take the view that a student can develop very quickly under my care, as I have the skills and experience to help them understand how to dramatically improve their thinking, speaking, and writing. My primary aim is to ensure my students perform exceptionally well in their exams, whilst enjoying the process as much as possible.
