Hi, I’m Lydia—a dedicated and approachable tutor specialising in GCSE and A-Level Maths and Physics. I’m currently studying Economics, Statistics and Mathematics at Queen Mary University of London, where I’m predicted First-Class Honours. I’ve always had a deep passion for numbers and problem-solving, which has led me to consistent academic success, including an A* in A-Level Maths, A in Further Maths, A in Physics, and top GCSE grades (9s in Maths and Further Maths).

I’m also a certified Mensa member and have earned recognition in national competitions like the UKMT Olympiad. Alongside my studies, I serve as President of the African and Caribbean Society at my university and have taken part in leadership and development programmes with PwC and Lloyds Banking Group, giving me strong communication and mentoring skills.

What sets me apart is my ability to connect with students from all backgrounds. Having mentored young people through community projects and having personally overcome significant challenges during my education, I bring patience, empathy, and motivation to every lesson. My aim is to make complex topics feel simple, boost confidence, and support each student in achieving their full potential.

Tutoring Experience

While I may not have formal tutoring experience through an agency, I have informally supported my peers in Maths and Physics throughout both sixth form and university. I often helped classmates prepare for exams by breaking down complex topics, walking through past paper questions, and offering revision strategies tailored to their learning styles.

My strong academic background has given me a solid foundation to teach confidently and clearly.

Outside the classroom, I’ve developed communication and mentoring skills through leadership roles, such as serving as President of the African and Caribbean Society and participating in professional development programmes with PwC and Lloyds Banking Group. These experiences have strengthened my ability to explain ideas clearly, encourage others, and create a supportive learning environment where students feel confident asking questions and making progress.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach is patient, personalised, and focused on building both understanding and confidence. I believe that no student is “bad at Maths” or “not a science person”—with the right explanation and encouragement, anyone can succeed.

I tailor each lesson to the student’s individual learning style, using a mix of step-by-step problem solving, real-world examples, and exam-focused techniques. Whether we’re revising for GCSEs or tackling tricky A-Level topics, I ensure concepts are broken down clearly and that students feel comfortable asking questions.

I also place a strong emphasis on building confidence. As someone who has informally tutored peers and mentored students through community programmes, I understand the importance of making students feel supported, listened to, and motivated. My aim is not just to help students pass their exams, but to develop skills and habits that will benefit them well beyond the classroom.
