I am an enthusiastic and approachable Chemistry teacher, having taught for 14 years in schools in the UK and internationally. I love the problem solving nature of the subject and the challenge of helping students to understand how it relates to the world around us.
Outside of teaching I enjoy travelling, sports and sewing.
I have extensive experience of teaching at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 across a variety of exam boards (including AQA, OCR and Cambridge International). During my career I have held the positions of Head of Chemistry and Head of Science as well as other academic and pastoral roles.
Being involved with mock interview days for students applying for Medicine and Oxbridge has given me valuable insight into what universities are looking for and how best to support students.
My priority is to help a student reach their potential and the first step in doing this is to identify the barriers that need to be overcome, whether it’s understanding a particular topic, the syllabus criteria or boosting their confidence. From here we can build on that knowledge and make excellent progress.
As a teacher I have access to a variety of resources to use in my tutoring and I understand the requirements of different exam boards, such as the mathematical elements, required practicals and key differences in mark schemes.
Learning happens best when it is personalised and interactive in order to empower the student so my sessions will include a mixture of targeted questioning, clear explanations and exam question practice.
