I only have a few slots remaining for this coming academic year, so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you are interested in my service.
Hello, I'm Lynne, a passionate, committed, and extremely patient tutor. I am a University of Glasgow graduate with both a BSc (Hons) in Medical Biochemistry (1999) and a PhD in Biochemistry (2004). After completing my education, I continued my career in scientific research working as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow, the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research and the University of Calgary. I started my tutoring business 13 years ago and I have been tutoring on a full-time basis since then. I have always enjoyed mentoring and inspiring young minds and I wish to continue sharing my knowledge by being a home tutor. I have a wealth of knowledge, both factual and practical, in maths, biology and chemistry and I am keen to share this knowledge with your child. I have the unique advantage over other tutors that I tutor Maths, biology and chemistry from primary 1 up to post-graduate level and as such I can assist your child in all 3 areas if required.
I have 27 years of experience teaching at various levels from tutoring friends and family for their high school exams to tutoring undergraduate students at university studying for their degrees. I have tutored all levels of students in the subjects of maths, biology and chemistry. I have tutored on a full-time basis for the past 13 years with tutees of various levels of study ranging from primary school to mature students studying at college and university. I have extensive knowledge and experience tutoring students studying for the Curriculum for Excellence (including the changes) at National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels. I also specialise in more short-term intensive tuition for students resitting university exams or looking to gain the knowledge to apply for university access courses and degree courses. I have extensive experience in preparing for various courses, including Police Standard Entrance Test (SET), UCAS entry, Medical school entrance exams, armed forces entry assessments, access to Nursing courses, and numeracy assessments required for employment purposes, to name just a few.
I always ensure that I treat each student as an individual and tailor my method and approach to tutoring to the individual student’s needs. I am a very patient person who is never defeated so if a student does not understand immediately how to approach a problem, I give them the tools to work through the problem methodically and with patience. As well as identifying areas of improvement from a chat with the tutee and parents/carers, I also like to pose the tutee several other problems to help me identify other areas that may require attention but are not at the forefront. I use a variety of approaches to my tutoring from past exam papers, to worksheets to everyday examples the tutee can relate to. I strive to develop the tutees thinking ability without just teaching them how to cram and remember facts. I am an extremely organised person and I will also help establish a suitable study plan and schedule to help the tutee realise his/her educational goals. Thanks for taking the time to read my profile and I look forward to hearing from you.
